Vibrantz Technologies Pearls™ solid-colorant tinting system demonstrates low carbon footprint
HOUSTON, July 24, 2024 – Vibrantz Technologies today announced the positive results of a life cycle assessment (LCA) comparing the global warming potential (GWP) of its Pearls™ solid-colorant tinting technology with that of traditional tinting solutions. The results indicate that the Pearls tinting solution has 15% lower carbon footprint per m² of coated surface on average compared to a traditional tinting solution.
Pearls™ is the first and only volumetrically dosed tinting system of solid colorants designed for use in water-based architectural and industrial applications. Pearls is designed for simplicity, sustainability and cost-efficiency, with zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs), limited additives and fully recyclable packaging. Its unique benefits — including extended paint shelf life, user-friendly operation and reduced total cost of ownership — make Pearls especially valuable in architectural and industrial coating applications, where precision, performance and environmental responsibility are critical. The company is undergoing a series of planned optimizations, part of a roughly $20 million investment, that will increase Vibrantz’s global Pearls production capacity to approximately 1.2 million liters per year. Located adjacent to Vibrantz’s existing colorant plant in Sittard, Netherlands, the new facility is expected to be operational in 2026 and will house a full-scale production plant and research and development laboratories.
“These results underscore our commitment to being a reliable partner in advancing sustainable colorant solutions for the paints and coatings industry,” said Barry Misquitta, President, Color Solutions at Vibrantz Technologies. “At Vibrantz, we’re proud to contribute to a more environmentally responsible value chain by delivering high-performance, low-impact technologies that help our customers meet evolving sustainability goals.”
This analysis was conducted by Sphera according to EN 15804+A2 and considered all stages from raw materials to manufacturing, and distribution to point of sales (A1-A5). The analysis benchmarked Pearls against a traditional liquid tinting system, and results were averaged to obtain a representative comparison.
